Evaluation: The famous Pacer used in Wayne’s World. Slightly dirty engine bay, and the original yellow paint is visible under the hood. All the movie bits are original, including camera mount on roof. The car is best described as refurbished rather than restored. Good paint and lightly worn interior, with light scratches on the window glass and light pitting on the headlight bezels. Already the record holder for most expensive Pacer ever sold after its last auction appearance in 2016, and still the most famous example of AMC’s love-it-or-hate-it hatchback.
Bottom Line: Barrett-Jackson sold Garth’s light blue Pacer in Las Vegas six years ago for $37,400. But despite selling during one of B-J’s slower days early in the week on Wednesday, the flame-licked Pacer broke its own record in a big way. It set the tone for a week in which movie and celebrity-owned cars sold for sky-high numbers.
