Evaluation: One of 71 Mk2 Vantages, distinctive for their wider wheels and flared arches. This one does have the less desirable automatic transmission and has been in present ownership since 2008. It will need re-commissioning, too, as it’s fresh out of long-term storage. It’s had a good respray but the glass was not removed. The bumpers have been re-chromed but the grille is original and in very good condition. The wire wheels are very clean but the large balance weights detract. The inside has that old car aroma with the original seat covers in good patina condition and newer carpets.
Bottom Line: This DB6 is one of a slew of long-dormant vintage Astons sold by Bonhams over the past several years. It’s nicer than most, and unlike most it sold for a solid price. Still toward the #4 range, but a reasonable number given its needs and automatic gearbox, and above its estimate.
The DB6’s proportions aren’t quite as pleasing as the DB5 and of course it doesn’t have the James Bond connection like the DB5 does, and this is reflected in significantly lower values for the 6. It’s undoubtedly a more user-friendly car, however. Hopefully the new owner puts it right and enjoys it soon.
