Evaluation: Delivered new in white over red but repainted and retrimmed in the early 2000s. Discolored stone chip on the nose, crack by the left jack point. Good chrome. Surface creased upholstery. The hood fits slightly but visibly high. Discolored cockpit surround molding chrome. It is a sound SL, but not exceptional.
Bottom Line: This car struggled, not only to meet the expectations for a 300SL Roadster but also to find a buyer. The time from $960,000 to this sold bid was nearly interminable, at least ten minutes in all. The car, it should be noted, is nothing to write home about and the result is fair for its condition.
