Gooding & Company had its best-ever Amelia Island auction in 2022 with $66.5M in total sales, but the California-based auction house surpassed even that mega result with $72.7M in 2023. Roughly a quarter of that is thanks to Gooding’s 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, which was the most expensive car all week at $18.045M. Of the 154 lots offered at Gooding, 148 sold for a 96 percent sell-through rate and an average price of nearly half a million dollars. This wasn’t an auction for bargain hunters, but it never is.
