Bonhams brought 126 vehicles to the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa for its annual Scottsdale sale, and 107 of them sold for an 85 percent sell-through rate, an average price of $280,821, and $30M in total sales. It was a normal (for Bonhams) mix of interesting if imperfect cars, including many Porsches, European classics and oddballs like a Citroën CX but also an impressive and rare 1971 Corvette ZR2. Two rare Chrysler Ghias, including a one-off show car, a BMW 507 and a Maserati MC12 were among the top lots and a 1968 Vespa Scooter sold for a record price, but the star car at Bonhams and indeed the top sale of the week was one of the oldest. A 1912 Simplex with impeccable history sold for $4.845M, showing that the best cars never go out of style.
