While we’re all looking ahead to 2021, we’re also looking at one more collector car auction from this turbulent year. The Bonhams Bond Street sale held on December 16 was a small one, but it had interesting cars. Unfortunately, fewer than half of the 19 vehicles to cross the block actually sold, topped by a Mercury Cougar used in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service that sold for a record £356,500 ($481,382). The Bond fever extended to the assorted memorabilia up for grabs in this auction as well, as a signed picture of the late Sean Connery sold for £4080 ($5509) and a poster for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service sold for a whopping £6375 ($8608). But back to the cars. Chris Sharpe was on-hand to provide evaluations and observations on the cars in person at a facility in Petersfield where the cars were being held. Market observations in the auction reports below are from Andrew Newton and Rick Carey.
Bonhams’ next scheduled collector car auction is in Scottsdale on January 21.
